Joseph Houston "Joe" Hurt

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved soul, Joseph Houston Hurt. Born on January 26, 1955, he peacefully departed this world on December 12, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith.

Joe was known for his gentle spirit and humble heart. A devoted husband, he stood by his beloved Jenny's side for 45 years until her passing in 2021. Their love story was quite a tale and a beacon of enduring commitment, demonstrating the true meaning of marriage. After her departure, he carried on with resilience.

A doting father and grandfather, Joe cherished his family above all else. Even if his words were few, you could always feel his warmth and compassion while in his presence. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed simple pleasures – listening to his favorite classic rock albums and watching his favorite movies. His love for nature and the simple joys of life reflected his appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.

As we mourn the loss of Joe, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he lived. May his spirit of humility and kindness continue to inspire us all. He leaves behind his son, Joseph Hurt (Melissa) of Germantown, TN; his daughter, Tracy LeAnn Mote of Henderson, TN; his sister Rose Mary Boals (Benny), his brother-in-law Ronald T. Goodwin (Cheryl) of Somerville, TN; ten grandchildren, Joseph Cash Hurt, Tyler Hurt, Luke Guizlo, Nicolas Kersbergen, Lillian Hurt, Knox Hurt, Kelsea Thomas (Cameron), Joseph Brett Carson (Angela) and Edward Cecil Carson IV (Meghan); and seven great-grandchildren, Maddie Carson, Kaylee Carson, Lillie Mae Carson, Easton Thomas, Reagan Thomas, Grayson Carson and Maci Carson.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell Alton and Margaret Ann Hurt, and his brother, John William Hurt of Martin, TN; his cherished wife, Virginia Ann Hurt of Somerville, TN; and his youngest son, John Justin Hurt of Memphis, TN. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may the memories of his love and kindness bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

Graveside Services for Mr. Hurt were held at 1:30 P.M. Friday, December 22, 2023 at Somerville City Cemetery.
