Joyce Ann (Williams) Dowdy

Joyce Ann Williams Dowdy, longtime resident of the Somerville Community, retired nurse and wife of Vernon Dowdy departed this life Wednesday afternoon, April 3, 2013 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where she had been a patient for two weeks. She was 67 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Dowdy were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, April 6th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Jim Whitley, pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church at Laconia officiating. Personal remarks and reflections were given by Danny Dowdy and Earl Dowdy. Special music was provided by Pabla Ann Taylor, pianist. Interment followed at the Liberty Cemetery in the Laconia Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Dowdy was born March 1, 1946 in the Warren Community of Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benny Williams and Christine Ivy Williams. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married October 4, 1968 to Vernon A. Dowdy, longtime Fayette County carpenter and employee of Food Rite in Somerville, who survives.

Mrs. Dowdy had been associated with healthcare for much of her life and served as a nurse at the Morris Clinic for 22 years and for 15 years at the Burnett Clinic before her retirement. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church and she will be remembered for her love of shopping and preparing food for family and friends. Her most cherished memories were made around the family, friends and patients that she held most dear. Those who knew her best were blessed by her warm smile and uplifting spirit during her lengthly illness. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who will not be forgotten.

In addition to her husband of 44 years, Mrs. Dowdy is survived by two daughters, Shannon Dowdy of Brownsville, Nicole Dowdy of Somerville; her brother, Robert Williams of Clinton, KY; and two grandchildren, Michaela Dowdy-Cannon of Somerville and Bradley Dowdy of Somerville. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Pete Williams, Wayne Williams and Jimmy Williams.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were James Butler, Collin Rosser, Doug Dowdy, Nathan Dowdy, Daniel Dowdy and Brian Dowdy.
Honorary casketbearers were Ernie Dowdy, Earl Dowdy and Danny Dowdy.
