Joyce Nell Morgan Grose, resident of the Burrowtown Community in Fayette County, retired accountant and wife of the late Norman Grose departed this life Monday morning, September 16, 2013 at the Crestview Health Care Center in Brownsville where she resided for eighteen months. She was 83 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Grose were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, September 19th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Kent Bailey of Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Grose was born January 3, 1930 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Freddie Morgan and Elma Lee Owen Morgan. She received her education in the Mississippi Public School System. She continued her education in Memphis where she was a resident for a number of years before moving to Fayette County over 30 years ago.
Mrs. Grose served as an accountant and bookkeeper for the Memphis Hardwood Flooring Company for 27 years before her retirement in 1994. She was the wife of the late Hastings Norman Grose, retired Tennessee Highway Department Engineer, who died October 14, 2005.
Mrs. Grose was of the Baptist faith and had a lifelong love of animals and flowers. She enjoyed nature and out of door activities that included caring for her yard and as a young person enjoyed riding horses in field trials with her late father. Mrs. Grose was an active member of her community and being a part of the political system was very important to her. She served as a coordinator for the “Stop the Dump” organization to protect the residents of the Gallaway and Braden areas. Raising toy poodles and feeding of hummingbirds on her property gave her much pleasure.
Mrs. Grose is survived by her daughter, Patty Hopper (William) of Mason; three sons, Ricky Barnhart (Elaine) of Brownsville, Cecil C. Grose of Only, TN, Michael Grose (Daphne) of Saulsbury; five grandchildren, Daniel Grose, William Hopper, III, J.R. Barnhart, Chelsie Grose, Cody Grose; and two great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers included Daniel Grose, Cody Grose, Ricky Barnhart and Michael Grose.
