Joyce Carter Roberts, 78, resident of Jackson, TN, former resident of Memphis and a native Fayette Countian died Tuesday morning, April 26, 2011 at her residence. She was 78 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services Honoring the Life of Mrs. Roberts were conducted at
2 PM Friday, April 29
th
at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland
with Rev. John White of the First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, officiating. Interment followed at 2 PM Sunday, May 1
st
in the Memory Hill Cemetery at Albertville, Alabama. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Fayette County, Mrs. Roberts was born January 28, 1933, the daughter of the late William Henry Carter and the late Viola Mills Carter. She was a graduate of
Hughes
High
School in Hughes, Arkansas and received Bachelor and Masters Degrees while attending Snead State College in Boaz, Alabama and Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. She served as a former professor at area colleges that included Jacksonville State University, Union University, University of Memphis and Mississippi State University.
In recent years, Mrs. Roberts served as a Bank Examiner/Auditor for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation before her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson and was a former resident of Albertville, Alabama before making her home in Jackson ten years ago.

her companion and special friend: Harold Lee Goforth of Jackson; a son: Clarence R.”Randy” Wooddell (Debbie) of Memphis; a daughter: Julia Lawrence Murphree of Germantown; two sisters: Carole Willwerth of Gallaway, Judy Rogers of the Belmont Community; a brother: Guy Kelley of Longtown and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son: Edward Lee Roberts, III (Jaime).
Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, 1573 North Highland Avenue, Jackson, TN 38301.
