Joyce Ann Black departed this life peacefully at her residence in Somerville on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 2:54 P.M. She gained her well-deserved wings at home surrounded by lots of love from her husband of 35 years, Durrell, her daughter, Trista and her grandboys, Dylan and Tye.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Black were held at 11 A.M. Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Bobby Holland officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Black was 65 years old when she became an angel. She was born on October 24, 1952 in Fernandina Beach, Florida. She was a member of the Oakland First Baptist Church and was a homemaker throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Olga Jane Sweat and her daughter, Regina Kay Tutor. She is survived by her loving husband, Durrell Black; her daughter, Trista Black Walker of Oakland and her two sons, Michael Wayne Grooms of Oklahoma City, OK, Steven Alan Grooms of Moore, OK; her eight grandchildren, Ashley Tutor, Corey Tutor, Brentyn Grooms, Bryce Grooms, Dylan Black, Kylee Grooms, Lexi Grooms, Tye Black; three great-grandchildren, Madison Tutor, Kinsley Tutor, Kyleigh Tutor; her sister, Carolyn Price of Waycross, GA; and six brothers, Virgil Braddock of Waycross, GA, Russell Braddock of Waycross, GA, Dan Braddock of Waycross, GA, Stanley Braddock of Bladenboro, NC, Johnnie Braddock of Waycross, GA and Chris Braddock of Waycross, GA.
Joyce “Nana” Black will always be remembered for all the love she shared, her amazing strength and one who never waned in her support or love of her family, as the one who soldiered on even when times were tough. She was the happiest when she had a fishing rod in her hand on the pond bank and when she was teaching and watching her grandbabies enjoy the outdoors and all life has to offer. She was a true inspiration to many. Her strength, love, smile, patience, understanding, wisdom, sound advice and amazing laughter will live inside many forever.
