J. R. GANN

July 27, 1934 — February 20, 2010

JAMES RICHARD GANN, longtime resident of the Warren Community in Fayette County and retired Acoustical Tile Installer died Saturday evening, February 20, 2010 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was 75 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Gann were conducted at 1 P.M. Tuesday, February 23rd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. John Ed Watkins, Pastor of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community near Somerville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Gann was born in the Hickory Withe Community on July 27, 1934 the son of the late James Andrew Gann and Mattie Gammel Gann.

He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a lifelong resident of Fayette County.

Mr. Gann was of the Baptist faith and had lived in the Warren Community for the past fifty years.

He was employed as an Acoustical Tile Installer for the Thomas Acoustical Tile Company in Somerville for a number of years before his retirement ten years ago.

He enjoyed cooking for family and friends and received much pleasure from his many fishing excursions with his beloved son.

He was known for his strong work ethic and his quiet, soft mannerisms. His interests included dominos, flower and vegetable gardening, nature, music and playing the guitar.

Survivors of Mr. Gann include the mother of his son, Patsy Gann of Memphis; his son, James Ira Gann of the Warren Community and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Wayne Hampton, Jackie Kee, John Markham, Tom Hoskins, Tony Thomas and Mike Wood.
