JUANITA WINIFRED JEWELL EVANS, lifelong resident of the Moscow Community, retired Troxel Company Employee and wife of the late Earl Evans, died at 5 P.M. Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital Fayette in Somerville where she had been a patient for one day. She was 88 years of age and died following an extended illness of several months.
Funeral services for Mrs. Evans were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, October 31st at the Moscow United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Griffith, Pastor of the church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Larry Kendrick of Somerville, former Pastor of the church. Interment followed in the Friendship Cemetery at Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Evans was born February 29, 1920 in Moscow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Jewell and Amelia Wilson Jewell. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School system and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville. Mrs. Evans was married July 12, 1951 to Earl Whitman Evans, longtime Sales Representative for the Orgill Brothers Company in Memphis and World War II Air Force Veteran, who died January 22, 1985.
An active member of her community throughout her lifetime, Mrs. Evans was employed as a Department Manager for the Troxel Manufacturing Company in Moscow before her retirement. She joined the Moscow United Methodist Church at the age of nine and was a devoted member of the church throughout her life, serving in numerous positions of responsibility that included the Administrative Board. For many years she was a member of the local Eastern Star Chapter and the Moscow Homemaker's Club.
Mrs. Evans served as President of the Friendship Cemetery Association for a number of years and was an active member of the Fayette County Community Bible Study. For many years Mrs. Evans and a group of her Moscow friends were faithful volunteers for the Fayette Cares Organization.
She will be remembered for her love of cooking and sharing her homemade treats with friends and relatives.
Survivors of Mrs. Evans include a daughter, Judith "Judy" Evans Seemann (Bob) of Oakland; four grandchildren: Greg Kee of Paris, TX; Andy Kee of Lakeland, TN and Ginny and Katie Williams, both of Memphis and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Williams of Collierville in 1986.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Joe Brown, Randy Hailey, Ron Houston, William Jewell, Jr., Woody Jewell, Donnie Leggett and Vip Lewis.
