Juanita (Smith) Minor

April 11, 1916 — June 26, 2014

Mary Juanita Smith Minor, resident of the Whiteville Community, retired nurse and wife of the late Richard Sidney Minor, departed this life Thusrday evening, June 26, 2014 at the Harris Grove Retirement Home in Whiteville where she resided for four years. She was 98 years of age.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Minor were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, June 30th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. William Coker, minister of the Powhatan Point Church of the Nazarene in Powhatan Point, Ohio, officiating Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Minor was born April 11, 1916 in Corning, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Emett Smith and Mary Elizabeth Curry Smith. She received her education in the Arkansas Public School System and was the wife of Richard Sidney Minor, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Minor was a resident of Fayette County for 42 years and served as a Registered Nurse for the Fayette County Health Department for over 20 years before her retirement. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and remodeling homes.

Mrs. Minor is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Bailey (Michael) of Hermitage, TN; her son, George Ray Hennigon (Robbie) of Emery, TX; two sisters, Lillie Parker of Tiptonville, TN, Verdrue Ellen Dominioni (Frank) of Memphis; six grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Brunner; and three brothers, James Edward Smith, Albert Merrill Smith and Raleigh Smith.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Al Parker, Michael Selby, Robert Selby, Michael Bailey, William Howell and Jason Taylor.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
