Juanita M. Darnell Orman

JUANITA MAE DARNELL "GRANNY" ORMAN, resident of the Saulsbury Community in Hardeman County and former longtime resident of the Macon Community in Fayette County, died at 8 P.M. Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the Collierville Health & Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident since April of this year. She was 91 years of age and died following an illness of several weeks.


Funeral services for Mrs. Orman were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 31st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Minister Stony Ramsey of the Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis, officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel.


A native of the Red River Valley in Oklahoma, Mrs. Orman was born May 9, 1916, the daughter of the late Robert B. Darnell and Lula Bell Giles Darnell. She moved at an early age with her family to Fayette County and was educated in the Macon, TN public school system. She was first married to Henry Orman of Fayette County, the father of her children, who died in 1965. She was later married to Claud Orman, who died in 1976.


A homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Orman was employed in earlier years by the Armour Company in Memphis and the Firestone Corporation in Memphis. She was a devoted member of the Macon Church of Christ throughout her life and participated in numerous church activities and also raised flowers and vegetables at her home in the Macon Community as long as health permitted.


She enjoyed basketball during school years and continued to follow college basketball throughout her lifetime. She was an avid rodeo fan and enjoyed attending rodeos for many years. Known for her ever-present smile and her love for family, friends and community, Mrs. Orman will be remembered as a kind, caring, compassionate mother, grandmother and neighbor, affectionately called "Granny" not only by her children and grandchildren, but by neighbors and friends. She moved to the Saulsbury Community to be near her son 3 years ago.


Mrs. Orman is survived by her daughter, Maxine Burton (Morris) of Macon, TN; two sons, Vern Orman (Jo) of Germantown and Bobby Orman of Saulsbury; her brother, James Clinton Darnell (Lottie) of Gainesville, FL; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.


Casketbearers were family members and friends.
