Judith Kay “Judy” Lemmon Fortenberry, resident of Cordova with family members in Fayette County, departed this life Friday evening, January 24, 2014 at her residence. She was 71 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Fortenberry were conducted at 3 P.M. Tuesday, January 28th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Jim Muston, minister at Cordova Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Fortenberry was born July 17, 1942 in Detroit, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John M. Lemmon and Willie Myrtle Collins Lemmon. She moved at an early age with her parents to Texas and received her education in the Fort Worth, Texas School System. She was married April 21, 1961 to Tom Fortenberry, who survives.
Mrs. Fortenberry was a Christian and was a homemaker for much of her life. She had been a resident of the Cordova Community for the past 25 years. She was blessed to receive care and love from her family during her illness. Mrs. Fortenberry enjoyed walking, exercising and reading and received much pleasure from her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, Mrs. Fortenberry is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Coggins (Tim) of Germantown, Karen Lynn (Chris) of Oakland; two sisters, Beverly Cartwright of Arlington, Deborah Smith of Millington; and four grandsons, Nathaniel Coggins, Daniel Coggins, Connor Lynn and Wyatt Lynn.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Chris Lynn, Tim Coggins, Nathan Coggins, Daniel Coggins, Pat Arata, Ronnie Cartwright and Vernon McCarty.
