Junior Nathaniel York

Junior Nathaniel York, age 87, resident of Collierville and husband of the late Geneva York, departed this life Saturday morning, December 26, 2015 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. York were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, December 31, 2015 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Loyd Shelton, pastor of the Peterson Lake Baptist Church in Collierville and Bro. Bill Gifford, a minister at the Church of Crossroads in Corinth, Mississippi, officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be at 11:30 A.M. Monday, January 4, 2016 at the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery near Germantown. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. York was born January 1, 1928 in Alcorn, Mississippi. He received his education in the Alcorn County School System and was married for 59 years to Geneva York. He served his country in the United States Army and was employed as a dispatcher at Sears for 39 years before his retirement. Mr. York was a resident of Collierville and a member of the Peterson Lake Baptist Church in Collierville. He enjoyed gardening and special times with his family.

Mr. York is survived by his son, Kenneth York (Beverly) of Collierville; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva York; his parents, Dee York and Ivory Mullens York; his daughter, Sonia Michelle Duke; and three brothers, Otis York, Willie Dee York and Gerald York.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Cody York, Jacky Forsythe, Brandon Forsythe, Robert Bright, David Hill and DeWayne Hill.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38105.
