James Winston “J.W.” Flannery, resident of the Braden Community, retired from the electrical industry and husband of Cynthia Carr Flannery, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, January 22, 2014 at the Methodist Germantown Hospital where he had been a patient since November 27, 2013. He was 58 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Flannery were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, January 26th at the Braden United Methodist Church with Dr. Mark Matheny, interim minister of the church, officiating. A Private Interment will be in the Walls Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Flannery was born February 9, 1955 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the son of Billye Ruth Price Flannery and the late John Lloyd Flannery. He received his education at the Hillsboro High School in Nashville and the Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was a former resident of the Nashville and Clarksville areas and had been a resident of the Braden Community for the past 20 years, where he enjoyed being a part of a small community.
Mr. Flannery was employed in the electrical industry for over 30 years and was a foreman for Ekmark Electric in Memphis before retiring for health reasons. He enjoyed a lifelong love for motorcycles and was an avid motorcycle rider throughout his life. He was a proud member of the Christian Motorcyclist Association and served as a volunteer fireman for the Braden Fire Department for ten years. He was a devoted member of the Braden United Methodist Church where he participated in numerous church activities that included being a member of the church administrative council and serving as chairman for the Pastor Parrish Relation committee.
Mr. Flannery is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cynthia Carr Flannery, a pharmacist for Walgreens in Oakland and Lakeland; his mother, Billye Ruth Flannery of Atoka; his sister, Carol Phillips of Atoka; his brother, Kim Phillips of Atoka; six nephews, Keith Phillips, David Phillips, Jeff Flannery, Johnny Flannery, Jerry Flannery, Jason Flannery; and his niece, Julie Flannery.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Terry Taylor, Glenn “Buzz” Luna, Jay Adkins, David Phillips, Sonny Davis and Ray Studdard.
