J.W. “Jim” Brown, longtime resident of the Moscow Community, owner of Brown’s Repair & Sporting Goods and husband of Connie Smith Brown, departed this life Wednesday morning, August 6, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for three weeks. He was 70 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Brown were conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, August 8th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Special music was provided by Donna Fortune, pianist. Interment followed in the Jones Chapel Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Brown was born January 9, 1944 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, G.W. Brown and Roberta Louise Kimery Brown Teague. He moved at an early age with his family to Fayette County and received his education in the Fayette County Public School System. He was married December 28, 1971 to the former Connie Faye Smith, who survives.
Mr. Brown was employed with Wonder Products in Collierville for 22 years before his retirement. In 1984, Mr. and Mrs. Brown opened Brown’s Repair & Sporting Goods in Somerville. He was a member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church and served as a member of the Somerville Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, taxidermy and special times with his grandchildren and family.
In addition to his wife of 42 years, Mr. Brown is survived by two daughters, Michele Toungette of Nashville, Emily Jones (Jim) of Walls, MS; two sisters, Nancy Leggett (Donnie) of Moscow, Ouida Crisp (Bobby) of Moscow; three brothers, James Teague (Sue) of Moscow, Ed Teague of Mountain View, Hawaii, William Teague (Lisa) of Moscow; and four grandchildren, Alexa Jones, Ella Toungette, Abigail Jones and Parker Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Marcus “Joe” Teague.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Carlton Defoor, Jim Key, Charlie German, Ronnie Shannon, Ty Inman and Joseph Defoor.
Honorary casketbearers were James Teague, William Teague, Bobby Crisp, Tom Day, Ralph R. Kimery, Vip Lewis and Wesley Parks, Sr.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville First United Methodist Church, 202 S. East Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
