Karen Starrett Gurkin, age 57, resident of Moscow, Tennessee and wife of Carl “Bubba” Gurkin, Jr., departed this life Sunday morning, November 12, 2017 at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Gurkin were conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow, Tennessee, with Pastor Bryan Morris officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Moscow, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Gurkin was born January 14, 1960 in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania. She received her Master’s Degree at Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pennsylvania. She was married January 25, 1986 to Carl “Bubba” Gurkin, Jr. and she was a very active member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church. She was employed in the transportation industry for many years as a traffic manager. An animal lover, Mrs. Gurkin enjoyed sewing, preparing food, doing puzzles and Sudoku and working with children and the elderly.
Mrs. Gurkin is survived by her husband of 31 years, Carl “Bubba” Gurkin, Jr. of Moscow, TN; her daughter, Elaine Seavers (Eric) of Louisville, TN; her son, Frank Gurkin (fiancée, Haley Edwards) of Memphis, TN; and her sister, Mary Starrett Gamble of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Starrett, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Stalford Starrett and her brother, Frank Starrett, Jr.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Eric Seavers, Dale Colson, Tim Anthony, Mike Hamric, Darold Brooks and Floyd Strickland.
