OLA KATHRYN DARNELL MILLER, longtime resident of the Macon Community in Fayette County, devoted homemaker and caregiver throughout her life and wife of the late Fred R. Miller
died at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at her family home on Highway 194 near Macon where she had resided for 65 years. She was 90 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Funeral services for Mrs. Miller were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, October 30th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with the Rev. William Torkell, Pastor of the Macon United Methodist Church, officiating. Special Remarks were provided by Deana Sanford, a great-granddaughter of Mrs. Miller. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of the Macon Community, Mrs. Miller was born June 5, 1918, the daughter of the late James Craven Darnell and the late Mary Azzilee Voyles Darnell. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was married September 7, 1935 to Fred R. Miller, Macon area Farmer and Employee of Troxel Manufacturing Company in Moscow, who died January 2, 1984.
One of the oldest residents of her community and one of the oldest members of her church, Mrs. Miller lived her entire lifetime in the Macon Community where she was a homemaker and dedicated caregiver to her family and to a great-grandson, Chris Duncan who resided with her.
She was a member for many years of the Macon United Methodist Church and her interests included gardening, sewing and crocheting. In earlier years she served as a Volunteer Gray Lady, assisting in the needs of patients at the former Western State Mental Health Institute in Bolivar.
Mrs. Miller was totally devoted to her family and will be remembered as a person who valued the friendship of others, always looking for positive qualities in her family and friends.
Survivors of Mrs. Miller include two daughters, Mary Pearl Hampton and Flora Lee Scott, both of Macon; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mattie Cooksey and Ella Mae Orman.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jason Hampton, Bailey Houston, Johnny Houston, Jimmy Scott, Thomas Scott and Dennis Smith.
