Katie Mae (McClure) Byrd

Moscow, Tennessee

Katie Mae McClure Byrd, age 85, resident of Moscow and wife of the late Walter Mohen Byrd, departed this life Saturday morning, July 7, 2018 at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Byrd were conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Moscow with Rev. David Parlow, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Byrd was born June 25, 1933 in Fayette County, Tennessee. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and had a special love for her church, Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her death. She and her husband, Walter Byrd, were cattle farmers up until her health failed, then she was employed as a postmaster relief, where she retired from in 2002. Mrs. Byrd enjoyed fishing, gardening, her flowers and preparing food for her family.

Mrs. Byrd is survived by two brothers, James McClure (Kaye) of Moscow, TN, Joe McClure (Eva) of Moscow, TN; two sisters, Dolly Rhea of Moscow, TN, Lanelle Rhea of Moscow, TN; her grandson, Gabe Crisp of Moscow, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Mohen Byrd who died July 21, 2006; her parents, John McClure and Laura Rigsby McClure; two brothers, Carl McClure, Danny McClure; and her sister, Sally Miller.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Mark McClure, Gary Rhea, Terry Rhea, John Crisp, Tony McClure, Ronnie McClure, Glen McClure, Gabe Crisp and Mike McClure. Honorary pallbearers were Bubba Miller, Bobby Miller, Doug McClure, Steve Rhea, David Erickson and Carl McClure, Jr.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to St. Jude Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
