Katie Elizabeth (Stroud) Creak

November 14, 1923 — September 11, 2013

Katie Elizabeth Stroud Creak, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and a person active in politics, in the community and in her church went to be with our Lord in heaven on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. She was 89 years of age.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Creak were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, September 28th at the Somerville First Baptist Church with Bro. Phil Lovelace of Brownsville officiating. He was assisted by Dr. Ken Story of the Somerville First Baptist Church. Personal remarks and reflections were given by Mrs. Creak's daughter, Melanie B. Creak. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Creak was born November 14, 1923 in the McKenzie Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ely Stroud and Zora McCaleb Stroud. She came to reside in Somerville in 1957 and became a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was employed for many years at West Tennessee Realty and for a while at Shelter Insurance. She often gave clothes and goods to the less fortunate in the Somerville Community. She embraced life with vigor and lived it to the fullest.

Mrs. Creak is survived by three daughters, Melanie B. Creak of Somerville, Cindy Lee of St. Louis, MO, Carla Thompson (Don) of Whiteville; her son, Charles “Sonny” Creak of Somerville; 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and her beloved church families at Somerville First Baptist Church and Somerville First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Happy” Creak, Jr. and two daughters, Cathy Creak Guenther and Kelly Creak Bullwinkel.

Casketbearers and honorary casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville First Baptist Church, 12685 S. Main Street, Somerville, TN 38068 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
