Katie Marie Benard Freels, age 75, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and wife of the late J.W. Freels, went home Friday morning, October 6, 2017 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Freels were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in the Hillville Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel in Somerville.
Mrs. Freels was born July 17, 1942 in Brownsville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Marvin Benard and Maude Eva Benard. She was a graduate of Haywood High School and a lifelong resident of the Haywood and Fayette County areas. Mrs. Freels was employed as a factory worker for the Allison Corporation in Somerville before her retirement. She was a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in the Hillville Community and she enjoyed sewing, lighthouses, vacationing in Gatlinburg and traveling with her sisters. Mrs. Freels was a family-oriented person and will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Freels is survived by her daughter, Angela Freels (Chris) of Somerville, TN; her son, Mark Freels (Amy) of Walnut, MS; two sisters, Debra Johnson (Gaylon) of Whiteville, TN, Jennifer Martin (David) of Whiteville, TN; four brothers, Narvis Benard of Brownsville, TN, Tommy Benard of Brownsville, TN, Stevie Benard (Glenda) of Whiteville, TN, Dalton Benard of Stanton, TN; six grandchildren, Tiffany Hawkins, Mark Freels, Jr., Carrie Evans, Shane Warf, Ryan Logan, Chelsea Freels; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Freels, who died December 5, 2011; her parents, William Marvin Benard and Maude Eva Benard; her daughter, Susan Michelle Freels; and her brother, Nolan Benard.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Corey Hawkins, James Kirkland, Mitchell Martin, Paul Benard, Joey Benard and Brad Young. Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Martin, Jesse Kirkland, Steve Benard and Jason Boullion.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 315 Mount Pleasant Road, Whiteville, TN 38075.
