Katie Griffin Risner, resident of the Oakland Community and wife of the late Charlie Henry Risner, departed this life Monday morning, March 3, 2014 at her residence. She was 83 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Risner were conducted at 12 Noon Thursday, March 6th at the Collierville First Pentecostal Church with Pastor Terry Hunt, minister of the church, officiating. Personal reflections were given by a grandson, Steven Benefield and special music was provided by George Turner. Graveside Services were conducted at 4 P.M. Thursday, March 6th at the Cogbill Cemetery in Wynne, Arkansas with Bro. Odell McCallum of Wynne, officiating. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Risner was born November 21, 1930 in Bald Knob, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Marvin Edward Griffin and Ella Nina Houston Griffin. She was the wife of the late Charlie Henry Risner, longtime railroad company employee, who died December 7, 1978. She was a former resident of McCrory and Wynne, Arkansas and was a resident of Byhalia, MS before moving to the Oakland Community.
Mrs. Risner was a devoted member of her church and will be remembered as a people-person who loved her church, her family and faith. She was a homemaker for her large family in earlier years and was also employed in retail and manufacturing in the Wynne Community before her retirement.
Mrs. Risner is survived by six daughters, Viola Burroughs (Waymon) of Colt, AR, Nina Harris of Oakland, Shirley Bennett (Paul) of Earle, AR, Debra Barksdale (Tom) of Hernando, MS, Elvia Wilkinson (Allen) of Forrest City, AR, Lola Feldhaus (Bob) of Salyersville, KY; fourteen grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Allen Edward Risner who died in 1985.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Bob Feldhaus, Tom Barksdale, Waymon Burroughs, Steven Benefield, Jason Bennett and Eddy Bouzeid.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Collierville First Pentecostal Church, 10545 Collierville Road, Collierville, TN 38017.
