Kay Immel Turner, resident of the Feathers Chapel Community in Fayette County and wife of the late James Richard Turner died Thursday morning, September 6, 2012 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for six days. She was 67 years of age and died following an extended illness.
At the request of Mrs. Turner, all services will be private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Turner was born June 14, 1945 in Shelbyville, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Louis Immel and Annie Meyers Williams Immel. She received her education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a 1963 graduate of the Treadwell High School in Memphis. She was married to James Richard Turner, who died in 2001.
Mrs. Turner was employed as an executive officer at Memphis Light Gas and Water for fourteen years before her retirement in 2003. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland and enjoyed quilting and gardening. Special times with her children and grandchildren were one of her favorite pastimes.
Mrs. Turner is survived by her daughter, Susan Turner of Somerville; her son, Bob Turner (Shelley) of Memphis; her sister, Roberta Lee Immel Garrity of Richland, WA; and five grandchildren, Dominic Ciaramitaro, James Ciaramitaro, Houston Ciaramitaro, Brian Milligan and Blake Milligan.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
