Kenneth (W.D.) Brown, resident of Somerville, United States Veteran and husband of Sally Conner Brown departed this life Friday morning, December 20, 2013 at his residence. He was 71 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Brown were conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, December 24th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Kenneth Culver, pastor of the Warren Community Church in Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Brown was born December 26, 1941 in Twin City, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan E. Brown and Rosalie Hayes Brown. He received his education in the Georgia Public School System and proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Period. He was married July 31, 1970 to the former Sally Conner of Fayette County, a Somerville Beauty Shop Owner and Operator for many years before her retirement, who survives.
Mr. Brown had been associated with the sheetmetal industry as a welder for all of his life. He was a longtime employee of the Sheetmetal Works Company in Memphis before his retirement in 2007. He was a Christian of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of Fayette County for over 43 years. He will be remembered for the love that he had for his family and his passion for fishing. His other interests included gardening and caring for his yard and enjoying fellowship with his “Breakfast Buddies”. Outdoor activities and animals were special to Mr. Brown. His pet chihuahua, “Cooper”, brought him much pleasure during his illness.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, Mr. Brown is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Forbes (Chuck) of Bartlett, Becky Pounders (Jeff) of Oakland; five sisters, Dot Portwood of Twin City, GA, Hazel Donaldson of Twin City, GA, Lottie Ellington of Twin City, GA, Jeanette Portwood of Twin City, GA, Faye Hadden of Stillmore, GA; and two grandsons, Joshua Forbes (Krystina) and Michael Forbes.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jeff Pounders, Chuck Forbes, Josh Forbes, Michael Forbes, Donnie Spicer and Joseph Spicer.
