Kenneth Lee “Poppie” Hunt, Sr., Memphis resident with extended family members in Fayette County that includes his son, Kenneth L. Hunt, Jr., a deputy for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department departed this life Sunday morning, May 6, 2012 at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis. He was 69 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Hunt were conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, May 10th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with remarks and personal reflections given by Loyd Shelton, family members and friends. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 in Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Hunt was born March 22, 1943 in Ferguson, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Othie O. Hunt and Ola Rena Snider Hunt. He received his education in the St. Louis, Missouri Public School System and had been a resident of Memphis since 1989. Mr. Hunt was a master plumber for 42 years and remained active in his chosen field until one week ago.
He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his interests included automobile racing and participating in area auctions. Watching television and fishing were favorite pastimes.
Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife, Marcia L. Hunt of Memphis; four daughters, Susan L. Rodriguez of Memphis, Jennifer L. Hunt of Memphis, Melissa D. Long of Memphis, Cherica J. Long-Richardson of Memphis; four sons, Kenneth L. Hunt, Jr. of Lakeland, Jason L. Hunt of Memphis, Trevor L. Hunt of Sneads Ferry, NC, Carlos D. Long of Memphis; five brothers, Jim Hunt of Bowling Green, MO, Dan Hunt of St. Louis, MO, Jessie Hunt of Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, Doug Hunt of Centerville, MO, Rick Hunt of Salt Lake City, UT; fourteen grandchildren and many friends who loved him dearly.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers and honorary casketberears were Kenneth Lee Hunt, Jr., Jason Lee Hunt, Trevor Lee Hunt, Doug Hunt, Dan Hunt, Jerry Hall, Jared N. Adams, Vicente Paul Rodriguez and Carlos Diante Long.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
