Lance Arvel Barrett, resident of the Middleton Community in Hardeman County and retired Kroger Company Employee died Friday evening, April 13, 2012 at his residence in the Woodrun Lake area. He was 82 years of age and died following an illness of one month
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Barrett were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, April 17th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Pastor Tim Freeney, Pastor of the Middleton First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Memory Gardens Cemetery on Germantown Road at Bartlett. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Russellville, Alabama, Mr. Barrett was born December 11, 1929. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dudley Barrett and Dora Obely Madden Barrett. He received his education in the Tennessee Public School System and was married in 1951 to the former Helen Sedenia Bennett, who died in 2005.
Mr. Barrett was a former resident of Memphis and was employed as a Meat Market Manager for the Kroger Company for 42 years before his retirement 20 years ago. He was a resident of the Middleton Community for the past five years and was a member of the Middleton First Baptist Church. He will be remembered as an avid woodworker who enjoyed nature and all outdoor activities.
Mr. Barrett is survived by two daughters, Brenda Conry (James) of Middleton, Helen Marie Wall (Terry) of Mason; two brothers, Robert Barrett of Tucson, AZ, Curtis Barrett of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Larry Williams, Brandon Williams, Josh Williams, Justin Wall, Shane Conry and Kevin Shelton.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
