LARRY J. GREEN, resident of the LaGrange Community in Fayette County and retired University of Memphis Employee, died Tuesday evening, October 7, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital of Fayette in Somerville where he was taken after becoming suddenly ill at his residence earlier in the evening. He was 66 years of age and died unexpectedly.

Funeral services for Mr. Green were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, October 11th at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Jim McKinney, Pastor of the LaGrange United Methodist Church in LaGrange, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the LaGrange Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Green was born in Halls, Tennessee on February 18, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents Guy Andrew Green and Sadie Littles Green. He was educated in the Halls Public School System and continued his education at the William R. Moore School of Technology in Memphis. He served in the United States Army as a young person. Mr. Green was married September 18, 1964 to the former Shirley Baker, longtime Office Employee of the Peebles Funeral Homes, who survives.

Mr. Green was employed for over 30 years by the University of Memphis and retired from the university as HVAC and Controls Manager.

Mr. Green was a former resident of Memphis and had been a resident of LaGrange since 1970. He enjoyed out of door activities, sports and was an avid computer buff. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his devoted wife of 44 years, Mr. Green is survived by two sons, Mike Green of Adamsville, TN and Chad Green of Oakland; two sisters, Helen Yarbrough of Curve, TN and Peggy Potter of Jackson, TN; his brother, Guy Green, Jr. of Atoka and one granddaughter, Michelle "Shelly" Green.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Phil Griffin, "Buzzy" Parham, "Bubsy" Thompson, Hal Thompson, Jr., Larry Watkins and Wallace Witmer.

Honorary casketbearers were William Singletary and Hal Thompson, Sr.
