Larry Stone Morton, age 77, resident of Collierville and husband of Faye A. Morton, departed this life Sunday morning, July 31, 2016 at his residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Morton were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Thomas Foy, pastor of the Kirk Baptist Church in Collierville, officiating. Interment followed in the New Bethel Cemetery in Rossville, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Morton was born April 1, 1939 in Rossville. He received his education at Fayette County High School and served in the United States Army as an airborne paramedic. He was married to Faye and was employed as a head cook at Universal Services in Houma, Louisiana on various offshore oil platforms. Mr. Morton was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed preparing food, farming, playing cards, watching Westerns and special times with his grandchildren.
Mr. Morton is survived by his longtime wife, Faye A. Morton of Collierville; his daughter, Rachel Morton Stewart and her husband, Frank, of Collierville; his son, Larry A. “Tony” Morton of Collierville; three sisters, Pattye Rhodes and her husband, Eugene, of Memphis, Wanda Johnson of Durham, North Carolina, Melanie Johnston and her husband, Edward, of Rossville; three brothers, Jimmy Morton of Rossville, Chris Morton and his wife, Carol, of Memphis, Mike Morton and his wife, Jeanine, of Moultrie, Georgia; five grandchildren, Kendall Warren, Dakota Chambers, Anthony James “A.J.” Stewart, Trevor Stewart, Dillon Stewart; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Arthur Morton and Freda Esther Stone Morton; his sister, Dixie Throneberry; and his brother, Philip Morton.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Frank Stewart, Dakota Chambers, Thomas Anthony, Tommy Morton, Dillon Stewart and Richard Anthony. Honorary pallbearers were Anthony James “A.J.” Stewart, John E. Anthony, Steve Anthony, Edward Johnston and Gene Rhodes.
