Larry Cecil Scott, resident of Cabot, Arkansas and former Fayette County resident, died at 9:47 P.M. Sunday, March 23, 2008, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was 57 years of and died following a six week illness.
Funeral Services for Mr. Scott were conducted at 3 P.M. Thursday March 27th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Bishop Steve Kennedy, officiating. Special remarks were given by a friend, Walter "Buck" Sides and a son-in-law, Brian Ronald Yokoo. Interment followed in the Walls Cemetery at Braden. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Scott was born June 9, 1950, in Memphis, the son of the late David Arthur Scott and the late Lou Annie Crisp Scott, longtime residents of the Braden Community. He was educated in the public school system of Fayette County and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School, Class of 1968. Mr. Scott completed his education at the State Technical Institute and was married September 9, 1978, to the former Elizabeth Diane Tucker, a former resident of the Oakland community, who survives.
Mr. Scott was employed as a telecommunications technician for the Little Rock Municipal Airport Commission in Little Rock, Arkansas at the time of his death and had been a contractor for Fed Ex in Memphis in earlier years. As a young person, he was a resident of Fayette County and his employment required him to live in California and Greenwood, Mississippi before returning to the Memphis and Little Rock, Arkansas areas.
Mr. Scott was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints and was known for his love of people. He was an outdoorsman and an avid University of Tennessee sports fan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who was devoted to his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Scott is survived by his daughters, Stacy Melinda Scott of Memphis, Amy Marie Yokoo of Cordova; three sons, John Robert Scott of Albuquerque, NM, William Nicholas Scott of Delhi, LA, Jason Matthew Scott of Cordova; his sister, Melba Hart of Arlington, two brothers, David W. Scott of Munford, Raymond Scott of Ashland, MS and 6 grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Gary House, George "Pete" Quick, Fredrick Glen Tucker, Jerry Paul Tucker, Jr., David "Wayne" Scott and Walter "Buck" Sides.
Honorary casketbearers were John Robert Scott, William Nicolas Scott, Jason Matthew Scott, Brian Ronald Yokoo and Tyler Jacob Yokoo.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Mission Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
