Larry Wade Watson, resident of the Moscow Community, United States Veteran and an active volunteer for the Fayette County Fire Department departed this life Thursday afternoon, July 11, 2013 at the Baptist Trinity Hospice House where he resided for five weeks. He was 64 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Watson will be conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, July 14th at the Moscow United Methodist Church with Bro. Jim Perry of Moscow officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Special music will be provided by Charlene Hurdle, pianist. Interment will follow in the Barton First Baptist Church Cemetery in the Barton Community near Collierville. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Watson was born February 8, 1949 in the Brownfield Community of Tippah County, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Franklin Watson and Francis Hazel Bennett Watson. He received his education in the Hardeman County Public School System and was a graduate of Middleton High School. As a young person, he served his country in the United States Army in Germany during the Vietnam War Period.
Mr. Watson was married October 1, 1976 to the former Virgie Harris of the Barton Community, who preceded him in death on August 3, 1995. He was employed as a truck operator for the Film Transit Truck Line for a number of years and after retiring from the trucking industry was employed by the Wal-Mart Corporation of Collierville. He had been a resident of the Moscow Community for the past 18 years and was a Christian.
Mr. Watson was an active volunteer for the Fayette County Fire Department and served in various positions of responsibility that included administrative specialist of the organization and presenting public education programs for the area schools. He enjoyed car racing as a young person and in later years operated an auction service in Moscow with his brother.
Mr. Watson is survived by his sister, Nancy Tucker of Summerville, SC; his brother, Barry W. Watson of Moscow; and two nieces, Kelsey Eaton and Lindsey Tucker.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be John Logan, Josh Denison, Robert Cogdill, Dale Marcum, Greg Oliver and Josh Yager.
