Larry Elliott Watts, Sr., a native of Pageland, South Carolina and a resident of West Tennessee for 35 years who resided in Germantown at the time of his death, departed this life Wednesday morning, March 26, 2014 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was 76 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Watts were conducted at 6:30 P.M. Saturday, March 29th at the Germantown United Methodist Church. Interment will be private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Watts was born May 11, 1937 in Pageland, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Watts and Faye Funderbunk Watts. He received his education in the Chesterfield, South Carolina Public School System and was the husband of the former Elizabeth Johnson, who survives. In earlier years, Mr. Watts served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of the Germantown United Methodist Church.
Mr. Watts was employed as a Junior Executive for the Exxon Corporation of Charlotte, North Carolina and was associated with the company for 30 years before his retirement 19 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Watts had been residents of West Tennessee for the past 35 years. He enjoyed all kinds of sports and was an avid University of Mississippi sports fan. In earlier years, Mr. Watts also served as a coach for little league baseball, football and basketball teams.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mr. Watts is survived by three sons, Larry Elliott Watts, Jr. (Marah) of Collierville, David Funderbunk Watts, Sr. (Cameron) of Dallas, TX, Alan Parker Watts, Sr. (Staci) of Collierville; his brother, James Bailey Watts (Pat) of Camden, SC; five loving grandchildren, David Funderbunk Watts, Jr., Kaitlin Watts, Matthew Watts, Emmy Watts, A.J. Watts; and many extended family members.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Church Health Center, 1210 Peabody Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104.
