LAUREL ENGLISH VERNON CROOK

August 31, 1948 — June 5, 2008

LAUREL ENGLISH VERNON CROOK, a resident of the Raleigh-LaGrange Road in Fayette County, retired photographer and wife of the late James Charles Crook, died at 7 A.M. Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for 33 days. She was 59 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Crook were conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, June 10th at Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with the Rev. David Cross, of Collierville officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mrs. Crook was born August 31, 1948 in Shelby County the daughter of the late Dr. Leonard J. Vernon and the late Frances Fraser Vernon. She was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and graduated from the Overton High School in Memphis in 1966. She received her Fine Arts Degree in 1974 from the University of Memphis.

A resident of the Piperton/Elba Community area in Fayette County for 20 years, Mrs. Crook was married May 27, 1977 to James Charles Crook who died April 1, 2005. She enjoyed photography throughout her life and owned and operated with her twin sister Beautiful Creations Photography Studio in Collierville for twenty-one years before her retirement.

Mrs. Crook was a devoted member of the Collierville First Assembly of God Church where she participated in numerous church activities. She enjoyed gardening, tennis oil and charcoal painting and will be remembered for her quiet mannerisms. She lived her life with dignity, courage and faith and was an inspiration to her family and friends.

She is survied by her son Jim McDermott of Fayette County; two brothers, Dr. Michael L. Vernon of Germantown and James A. E. Vernon of Charlotte, NC and a granddaughter, Vivian Elaine McDermott.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Jolinda Vernon Huffman.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David Huffman, John Huffman, James Vernon, Jim McDermott, Earl Huffman and Gary Huffman.
