Lavelle Billings Cross, age 77, resident of Mason, Tennessee and husband of Annetta Rodgers Cross, departed this life Monday evening, May 13, 2019 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cross were conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Mark Matheny officiating. Special music was provided by Barbara Hall. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Lavelle was born January 1, 1942 in Mason, Tennessee, the son of the late Leron Lavelle Cross and Harriet Pauline Billings Cross. He was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1960 and was a lifelong resident of the Mason area. He was married July 24, 1960 to the former Annetta Rodgers and was a member of Braden United Methodist Church. Lavelle was employed as a truck driver for Ryder Distribution in Memphis before his retirement in 2003 and was also a farmer for many years. He enjoyed watching westerns, his dogs, Rocky and Lady, and outdoor activities that included camping, riding ATV’s and hunting.
Mr. Cross is survived by his wife of 58 years, Annetta Rodgers Cross of Mason, TN; his daughter, Teresa Cross Maxey (Trent) of Arlington, TN; his son, Larry Lavelle Cross of Mason, TN; two sisters, Betty Cross Fulwood of Millington, TN, Carolyn Cross Edlund (Keith) of Columbia, TN; four grandchildren, Brent Allen Maxey (Jamie), Cassie Maxey Hansen (Chase), Christopher Lavelle Cross (Jennifer), Kellie Cross McKinney (Marty); and two great-grandsons, Ellis Russell Hansen and Jackson Lavelle Cross.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Brent Maxey, Christopher Cross, Chase Hansen, Marty McKinney, James Thompson and Johnny Pattat.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Braden United Methodist Church, 230 Highway 59, Mason, TN 38049.
