Lee Allen Barkley, Jr., age 70, resident of Lakeland and husband of Sandra McCann Barkley, departed this life Friday evening, March 11, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Barkley were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Faith Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Sinquefield, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Barkley was born August 6, 1945 in Brownfield, Mississippi. He received his education in Walnut, Mississippi and the Northeast Mississippi Junior College in Booneville, Mississippi. He started as a lineman and advanced to the ranks of an assistant manager in electrical distribution at the Memphis Light Gas & Water. He was employed for 40 years before his retirement. Mr. Barkley was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Memphis and a longtime resident of the Lakeland area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and using his computer.
Mr. Barkley is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra McCann Barkley of Lakeland; his daughter, Janet Lee Barkley Sewell and son-in-law, Nickey Thomas Sewell, Jr., both of Arlington; his brother, Nat Barkley and his wife, Alice, of Memphis; and two grandchildren, Taylor Nicole Sewell and Austin Thomas Sewell and his girlfriend, Kara S. Byrd.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Allen Barkley, Sr. and Hadie Moore Barkley; his son, Archie D. Barkley; and his brother, Andy Barkley.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were J.D. Watts, Bradley Ball, Billy Wallace, David Reid, Gregg Deaton and Ronnie Sewell. Honorary pallbearers included Larry Lanphere.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
