Lemuel Turner Cannon, Sr., age 85, resident of Somerville and husband of the late Betty Loraine Thompson Cannon, departed this life Tuesday morning, August 7, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cannon were held at 2 P.M. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the District 15 Community with Bro. Kevin Treadway officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Cannon was born August 12, 1932 in Somerville, Tennessee. He was married on August 27, 1954 to the former Betty Loraine Thompson and was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Fayette County road maintenance department. He loved special times with his family members and friends and enjoyed coon hunting, watching wrestling and tending to his horses and chickens.
Mr. Cannon is survived by his daughter, Sarah Roberts (Eddie) of Pickwick, TN; four sons, Red Cannon (Brenda) of Somerville, TN, Tommy Cannon (Patricia) of Somerville, TN, Leroy Cannon (Shelly) of Hickory Valley, TN, Lemuel “Junebug” Cannon (Bernice) of Newcastle, TN; his sister, Lula Duncan (Charlie) of Somerville, TN; his brother, Toby Cannon (Martha Ann) of Somerville, TN; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Loraine Thompson Cannon who died December 12, 2011; his parents, Jack Cannon and Darthula Phillips Cannon; his daughter, Margaret Freels; two sisters, Nannie Spicer, Elizabeth Adair; five brothers, Grady Cannon, Levi Cannon, Willie Cannon, John Day Cannon, Raymond Cannon; and his granddaughter, Betty Ann Freels.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Larry Wayne Cannon, David Cannon, Ramond Bryson, Christopher Bishop, Sammy Simpson, Sr., Sammy Simpson, Jr., Bubba Johnson and Josh Shields. Honorary pallbearers were Pall Cannon and David Freels.
