Lemuel G. Pruitt

June 2, 1937 — September 14, 2007

LEMUEL G. PRUITT, a resident of Memphis, native of Fayette County and husband of Elizabeth (Liz) Kelley died at 4:30 A.M. Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he was taken after becoming suddenly ill in his home earlier in the morning. He was 70 years of age and died unexpectedly.


Funeral services for Mr. Pruitt were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, September 16th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Hwy. 64 at Oakland with Rev. David Reeves, Pastor of the Midway Baptist Church at Whiteville officiating. Special remarks were given by a son, Bill Pruitt. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel.


Mr. Pruitt was a native of the Williston Community. He was born June 2, 1937 to the late Eugene Bailey Pruitt and the late Effie Hazel Reeves Pruitt, early residents of the Williston Community. He was educated in the Fayette County Public School system and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville, Class of 1955. He was married August 11, 1956 to the former Elizabeth Kelley of Fayette County, who survives.


Mr. Pruitt had been a resident of Memphis for 49 years and was employed in sales for the beverage industry for much of his life, retiring from the Crown Distributing Company 6 years ago. He was of the Christian Faith and will be remembered for his love of all sports including Nascar activities. He enjoyed his family, customers, friends and his Fayette County heritage.


In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons, Ricky, Ronald, Gary and Bill Pruitt, all of Memphis; his sister, Vivie Jenkins of Williston & one granddaughter, Ashley Paige Pruitt.


Those honored to serve as casketbearers included Charles Kelley, Jr., Jeffery Kelley, Vincent Kelley, Danny Lazenby, Greg Sheffield and Jack Walker.
