Lester Lavern Cannon

November 5, 1947 — September 2, 2016

Lester Lavern Cannon, age 68, resident of Somerville and husband of the late Lottie Virginia Freeman Cannon, departed this life Friday morning, September 2, 2016 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Cannon were conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with James Teague officiating. He was assisted by Del Fraley. Special music will be provided by Janice Doss. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Cannon was born November 5, 1947 in Somerville. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a lifelong resident of Fayette County. He was of the Baptist faith and a farmer throughout his life. Mr. Cannon enjoyed outdoor activities that included fishing, gardening and hunting. Special times with his family and friends was an important part of his life.

Mr. Cannon is survived by his daughter, Vicky Cannon of Somerville; five sisters, Lillie Sprayberry of Moscow, Mary Jones of Whiteville, Sue Teague (James) of Moscow, Cathy Disbro of Somerville, Ellen Fraley (James) of Henderson; four brothers, Bill Cannon of Somerville, Raymond Cannon (Dell) of Moscow, Robert Cannon of Somerville, Cecil Cannon (Joyce) of Somerville; his granddaughter, Nichole Hope Cannon of Somerville; and his special companion, his pet dog, “Pete”.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Virginia Freeman Cannon who died September 26, 2003; his parents, Willie Reece Cannon and Mary Alvie Thompson Cannon; his son, Lester Winfield Cannon; and three brothers-in-law, Harold Sprayberry, J.W. Jones and Earl Disbro.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Cecil Cannon, Jr., Michael Cannon, Jon Hurdle, Gabriel Hurdle, Jonathan Hogan and Jason Hood.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
