Lily Mae (Simpson) Peak

October 9, 1915 — April 25, 2013

Lily Mae Simpson Peak, resident of the Oakland Community, retired employee of Wilson Sporting Goods in Tullahoma, TN and wife of the late Roy Peak departed this life Thursday evening, April 25, 2013 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for two days. She was 97 years of age and died following an illness of six months.

Mrs. Peak was born October 9, 1915 in Winchester, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess N. Simpson and Sarah Elizabeth Golden Simpson. She received her education in the Moore County, Tennessee Public School System and was a graduate of the Lynchburg, Tennessee High School, Class of 1934. She was married July 27, 1957 in Fulton, Mississippi to Roy Peak, a United States Veteran, who preceded her in death on May 21, 2003.

Mrs. Peak was a former resident of Coffee County, Tennessee for much of her life and was employed as a payroll clerk for the Wilson Sporting Goods in Tullahoma, Tennessee for 23 years before her retirement in 1978. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Peak moved to Fayette County in 2006 to be near family members that included her nephew, Morgan Tankersley and wife, Jo Tankersley, who live in Oakland.

Mrs. Peak was a devoted Baptist throughout her life and had been a member of the Tullahoma First Baptist Church and the East Lincoln Heights Baptist Church for many years. She served as a Sunday School teacher in earlier years and her interests included reading and crocheting. She enjoyed the company of family and friends that included her beloved nieces and nephews and will be remembered as an avid storyteller and historian who loved animals and nature.

Mrs. Peak is survived by her sister, Louise Tankersley of Tullahoma, TN; her brother-in-law, John Goodyear of Germantown; her niece, Alison Balthrop (Jon) of Greenville, MS; her nephew, Morgan Tankersley (Jo) of Oakland; and a host of nieces and nephews related to her late husband and many friends.

Casketbearers will be family members that include nephews and the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148 or to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
