LITTLETON RODNEY RICHARDS

LITTLETON RODNEY "ROD" RICHARDS, a resident of the Fisherville Community, retired Teacher and Coach and United States Air Force Veteran, went to his heavenly home at 8:55 P.M. Monday, September 29, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for thirteen days. He was 74 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Littleton were conducted at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, October 4, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Fisherville with the Rev. Jack Moore, Pastor of the church, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Jonathan Daniels of Jackson, Mississippi, who is a nephew of Mr. Richard's wife and by Rev. Ed Nix, Associate Pastor of the Church. Special remarks were given by Mr. Richard's son, Michael Rodney Richards. Interment with Military Honors followed in the First Baptist Church of Fisherville Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Littleton was born May 29, 1934, in the Mashulaville Community of Noxubee County Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Weber Richards and Pearl Otis Richards and his sister, Jeannette Burnley. He was a graduate of the Macon, MS High School and continued his education at Memphis State University where he received both Bachelor and and Masters Degrees with additional graduate studies.

He was a veteran of the Air Force serving during the Korean War and was married November 23, 1957 to the former Mae Sue Sanders of Macon, MS, who survives.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fisherville and was a Teacher and a Coach at Kingsbury High School and East High School in Memphis. He retired from Memphis City Schools as Supervisor of Driver's Education and was a former resident of Memphis for 29 years before moving to the Fisherville Community in 1987.

Mr. Richards enjoyed out of door activities that included hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a devoted husband and father who received much pleasure from serving as an educator to young people throughout his life.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mr. Richards is survived by his son, Michael Rodney Richards (Jill) of Chesapeake, VA; his daughter, Karen Sue Miller (Gary) of Eads, TN; his brother, Amos Richards of Mashulaville, MS; his granddaughters, Kaitlin and Kara Richards; his grandsons, Connor Richards and Cade and Cole Miller; with a large extended family and many faithful friends.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Cade and Cole Miller, Connor Richards, Andy and Tim Daniels, Will Sanders, Gary and Jeremy Hurt.
