LIZ MAE YOUNG MAGNESS

September 18, 1936 — April 19, 2009

ELIZABETH MAE YOUNG (LIZ) MAGNESS, longtime resident of the Macon Community, retired Beautician and wife of Jerry Donald Magness died at 7:15 A.M. Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville where she had been a patient for three days. She was 72 years of age and died following an extended illness of several years.

Funeral services for Mrs. Magness were conducted at 3 P.M. Tuesday, April 21st at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. David Reeves, Pastor of the Midway Baptist Church at Whiteville, officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mrs. Magness was born September 18, 1936 in Amarillo Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Weaver Young and Minnie Mae Shepard Young. She was educated in the Amarillo Public School System and was a graduate of the Memphis School of Cosmetology.

Mrs. Magness was married May 3, 1954 to Jerry Donald Magness of Fayette County, retired Machinist, Tool & Die Maker and Farmer, who survives.

Mrs. Magness was a Beautician throughout much of her life, operating the New Image Beauty Shop in Somerville for a number of years before her retirement twelve years ago.

She was a member of the Macon United Methodist Church and had been a resident of the Macon Community in Fayette County since 1957. A person who enjoyed the friendships of many, she remained active in her community until her illness.

Mrs. Magness shared her musical talents during numerous charitable events that included fundraisers for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and other worthwhile organizations.

Mrs. Magness will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother and grandmother whose life was inspired by her Christian faith and optimism during her lengthy illness.

In addition to her husband of fifty-five years, Mrs. Magness is survived by two daughters, Sherry Lynn M. Ray (Roy) of Cedar Grove, TN and Cynthia Elaine Trimm of Braden, TN; one son, Jerry Wayne Magness (Liz) of Collierville; two brothers, Edmond Lee Young and Bill Young, both of Amarillo, TX; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Young.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Mack Magness, Dayton Ray, Cody Hillman, Jim Rogers, Nicholas Napper, Dennis Smith and David Smith.
