Royand Lloyd Henry, resident of the Somerville Community and longtime employee of Chickasaw Electric Cooperative, departed this life Saturday morning, April 12, 2014 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown where he had been a patient for nine days. He was 76 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Henry were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, April 16th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. William Langford, pastor of the Spring Hill Church of Christ at Laconia, officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Tony Watkins of Moscow. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Henry was born July 23, 1937 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Calvin Henry and Mary Belle Taylor Henry. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married April 26, 1965 to the former Betty Carol Feathers, a retired hairdresser and employee of the Kellogg’s Corporation, who survives.
Mr. Henry served in the United States Army National Guard as a young person and was employed as a lineman for the Chickasaw Electric Cooperative for 32 years before his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Spring Hill Church of Christ and will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed sports, hunting and fishing. A people-person who was blessed with a good sense of humor, Lloyd never met a stranger and was a friend to many in the community through his work, his family and being a part of his grandchildren’s sport activities.
In addition to his wife of almost 49 years, Mr. Henry is survived by his daughter, Becky Renee Henry Hooton (Donald) of Somerville; two sisters, Ruth Henry Pearson of Louisville, MS, Frances Christine Henry Perkins (Gary) of Somerville; two brothers, Harry H. Roberson of Somerville, Royce Floyd Henry of Somerville; and three grandchildren, Christian Lloyd Hooton, Zachary Hunter Hooton and Ryan Ashly Hooton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Franklin Eugene Henry and James A. Henry.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Ryan Hooton, Christian Hooton, Hunter Hooton, Donald Hooton, Brent Fowler and Cody Hart.
