Lloyd Olin "Red" Oliver, age 81, resident of the Hickory Withe Community, retired deputy for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office and husband of the late Mary Joan Grammer Oliver departed this life Sunday afternoon, August 25, 2013 at the Emeritus Health Care Center in Cordova.
Services for Mr. Oliver will be at 2 Thursday afternoon at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with visitation two hours before services. Interment will be in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Oliver was born September 11, 1931 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd Oliver and Leona Graham Oliver. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School. He was married June 13, 1955 to the former Mary Joan "Annie" Grammer Oliver, who preceded him in death on March 23, 2009.
Mr. Oliver served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War Period. He was employed as a deputy for the Shelby County Sheriff Department for 30 years before his retirement 16 years ago. He was a Baptist in faith and was an avid University of Tennessee football fan. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Oliver is survived by his son, David B. Oliver of Eads, TN; his sister, Kathleen Way of Jackson, TN; three brothers, Herman Oliver of Tennessee, Gene Oliver of Moscow, TN, Billy Oliver of Germantown, TN; and his grandson, Skylar Oliver of Cordova, TN.
