Lloyd Lynn Jones, longtime resident of the Braden Community, retired supervisor for Tennessee Department of Transportation and husband of the late Johnny Ann Starnes Jones departed this life Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2013 at his residence. He was 72 years of age and died unexpectedly following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Jones were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 5th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Wendell Smith of the Braden United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Walls Cemetery in the Braden Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Jones was born May 1, 1940 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edwin Jones and Ruby Ann Kennedy Jones. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville, class of 1958. He was married May 7, 1961 to the former Johnny Ann Starnes, who preceded him in death on April 8, 2008. Mr. Jones was employed by the Tennessee Department of Transportation for 48 years and served as a supervisor for the deparment before his retirement in 2003.
He was a devoted member of Braden United Methodist Church where he participated in numerous church activities. Known as “The Tomato Man”, Mr. Jones enjoyed raising large quantities of tomatoes each year and sharing them with the community, often times delivering them to those who appreciated local vegetables. He will be remembered for his love of people and his enjoyment in “doing for others”. Gardening, fishing, hunting and preparing food for family and church gatherings were favorite pastimes.
Mr. Jones is survived by his daughter, Tina Lynn Baggett (David Brannon Baggett) of Lakeland; his son, Billy Starnes Jones (Diane Tapp Jones) of Somerville; five brothers, James Jones (Mathilde) of Hickory Withe, Johnny Jones (Leona) of Braden, Mack Douglas Jones (Dianne) of Hickory Withe, Jerry Jones (Jean) of Hampshire, IL, David Jones (Kathy) of Saulsbury; six grandchildren, Katye Baggett, Megan Jones, Kallye Baggett, William Jones, Karey Baggett, Rachel Jones; and his pet canine, “Duke”.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were William Jones, Cliff Sink, Jason Sink, Jimmy Jones, Mark Jones and Mike Jones.
