LOIS LEGENDRE TANN, a resident of the Oakland Community and former resident of DeKalb, MS, died at 10:37 P.M. Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the Gallaway Health Care Center where she had been a resident since December 2007. She was 86 years of age and died following a six month illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tann were conducted at 3 P.M. Saturday March 1st at the New Hope United Methodist Church near DeKalb, MS. The speakers included family members of Mrs. Tann and Rev. Owen Gordon, pastor of the church. Interment was in the New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Tann was born July 1, 1921, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the daughter of the late Octave J. Legendre and the late Ruth Hastings Legendre. Mrs. Tann was educated in local schools and was the wife of the late Lawrence C. Clark who preceded her in death. Mrs. Tann was later married to the late Oliver G. Tann, Jr. who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Tann was a homemaker and was employed as a cashier for the Kroger Company for a number of years before her retirement in 1961. She was a former resident of Marks, MS and Ocean Springs, MS where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Ocean Springs.
Mrs. Tann is survived by her daughter, Jean Ruth Tann of Huntsville, AL; her sons, Lawrence C. Clark, Jr. of Culdesac, ID, Patrick W. Clark of Houston, TX, Dennis O. Clark of Oakland, Oliver G. Tann, III of Tupelo, MS; her sister, Doris Richards of New Orleans, LA; her brother, Robert Legendre of Picayune, MS; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tann was preceded in death by a son, Mickey Clark.
Casketbearers were Dennis Clark, Lawrence Clark, Jr., Oliver Tann, Patrick Clark, John Lyle Briggs, Lea Clark, Denny Clark and Robby Legendre.
The family request that memorials be directed to any local Christian Mission.
