Lonnie Ernest Yager, Jr., age 86, resident of Moscow and husband of Gwen Yager, departed this life Thursday morning, February 4, 2016 at the Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Yager were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. The officiating ministers were Bro. Billy Adair, Bro. Bob Williams and Bro. Jack Gresham. Interment followed in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Yager was born January 17, 1930 in Moscow, Tennessee. He received his education in the Fayette County and Marshall County, Mississippi Public School Systems and continued his education at the University of Tennessee at Martin. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Conflict and was married June 1, 1956 to the former Mary Gwendolyn Lain. Mr. Yager was a longtime resident of the Moscow area and was a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He was a Mason for 60 years, having served as a Worshipful Master at the Somerville Masonic Lodge and was employed as a shipping and receiving supervisor for Stone Containers in Collierville before his retirement and was a farmer throughout his life. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, farming, woodworking and coon, rabbit and quail hunting.
Mr. Yager is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Gwen Yager of Moscow; three daughters, Annette Pittman (Tommy) of Pope, MS, Loretta Strait of Moscow, Louise Allen (Jake) of Moscow; his son, Joe Yager (Tricia) of Moscow; two sisters, Eleanor Pruitt of Como, MS, Ann Harvey (Glenn) of Cummings, GA; is brother, Donald “Sonny” Yager (Gaye) of Winterville, GA; nine grandchildren, Bryan McClure, Marshall Davidson, Carla Cannon, Jonathan Allen, Amanda Tutor, T.J. Pittman, Alyson Yager, Jody Yager, Macy Yager; and six great grandchildren, Megan McClure, Leila Davidson, Sierra Davidson, Bryanna Cannon, Gabe Tutor and Alana Pittman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie Ernest Yager, Sr. and Hattie Louise Malone Yager; his sister, Mary Womack; and two grandchildren, Lonnie Allen and Bradley Yager.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Bryan McClure, Marshall Davidson, Jonathan Allen, T.J. Pittman, Keith Cannon, Brandon Duke, Alford Burton and Gary Markle. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Yager, Billy Moss, Bob Yager, Bubba Gurkin and Charlie Wood.
