Lorene Oliver Pulliam, lifelong resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Thomas Julian Pulliam, went home to be with the Lord at 12:45 P.M. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Services of Remembrance and Celebration for Mrs. Pulliam were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Somerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Story, pastor, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Pulliam was born September 24, 1922 in Somerville to the late Lee Washington and Sarah Elizabeth Lewis Oliver. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee. Mrs. Pulliam was a teacher for the Fayette County School System and was later employed as a secretary for the Farmers Home Administration for a number of years before her retirement.
She loved her church and her family above all else. A member of the Somerville First Baptist Church, she was active in the church choir and the Royal Heirs for many years.
Mrs. Pulliam is survived by her daughter, Judy Ashby (Stephen) of Memphis; two granddaughters, Ashley P. Turner (Will) of Collierville, Lindsey P. Ring (Robert) of Birmingham, Alabama; and two great grandchildren, Thomas Turner of Collierville and Kathryn Ring of Birmingham, Alabama.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Pulliam was preceded in death by her son, Gerald Pulliam on October 25, 2013; two brothers, Louis Oliver, Carl Oliver; and her sister, Lottie Faye “Tootsie” Oliver.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jerry Redfearn, Preston Douglas, Earl Dowdy, Edd Denniston, Tommy Perkins, John Bond, Steve Reeves, Sam Bryson and Royce Reeves.
Honorary casketbearers were Terry Redfearn, Bobby Morris, James Patrick, Leon Mackey and Aubrey Green.
