1930—2010
LOUIS LEON MONTAGUE, well known resident of the Warren Community and retired Fayette County farmer and landowner died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville. He was 80 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Service of Remembrance for Mr. Montague was conducted at 1 P.M. Friday, July 9th at the Somerville Church of Christ with speakers David Looney and James Cypress officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Montague was born May 6, 1930 in Fayette County, the son of the late Paul Montague and the late Emma Peterson Montague. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married July 22, 1956 to the former Peggy Johnson of Fayette County, Public Relations Director for the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, before her death on September 22, 2007.
In earlier years Mr. Montague served as a Heavy Weight Golden Gloves Champion in the city of Memphis and also played professional baseball. He was a longtime farmer in Fayette County and was associated with his family in the development of Lou Monta Hills subdivision in the Warren Community.
Mr. Montague was a devoted member of the Church of Christ at Macon and Somerville and in earlier years served as an elder at the Macon Church of Christ. He was a strong supporter of Christian Missions with a particular interest in the work of his nephew, Curry Montague, who is currently serving as a missionary in Budapest, Hungary. Mr. Montague and other interested individuals were instrumental in the formation of the Macon Road Church of Christ on Hwy 195 near Somerville.
Mr. Montague will be remembered for his quiet mannerisms and as a kind and gentle person who never sought attention for the many good deeds that he shared with others.
He is survived by his daughter: Robin Peak and husband Donnie Joe Peak of Warren, two sons: Dr. Tim Montague and wife Dr. Sandy Montague of Covington, Andy Montague and wife Michele Montague of Warren, one brother: C. W. Montague and wife Celeste Montague of Somerville, and eight grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Caleb Montague, Casey Montague, Christopher Montague, Garrett Montague, Mark Montague and Chris Peak.
Honorary Casketbearers were Jonathan Bliss, Ezell Dotson, Ben McNabb, Toby McNabb and John Robertson.
