Louise Maxine Sims Blackwell, known to her family as “Mema”, age 84, resident of Paris, Tennessee, former resident of Somerville and wife of the late Thomas “Jack” Blackwell, Sr., departed this life Monday morning, May 30, 2016 at the Morningside of Paris.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Blackwell were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, June 3, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Phil Lovelace pastor of Allen’s Baptist Church in Brownsville, officiating. Personal remarks were given by Judge Mike Whitaker. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Blackwell was born July 19, 1931 in Charleston, Tennessee. She received her education in the Tipton County, Tennessee School System and was married July 4, 1951 to Thomas “Jack” Blackwell, Sr. Mrs. Blackwell was a resident of Somerville from 1955 until 2007 before moving to Paris, Tennessee. Mrs. Blackwell was employed as a bank teller at the Somerville Bank & Trust for 30 years before her retirement. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Somerville before she moved to Paris, where she became a member of the First Baptist Church in Paris. She enjoyed painting and special times with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Blackwell is survived by two sons, Thomas John Blackwell, Jr. of Williston, Donald Wayne Blackwell and his wife, Gloria, of Somerville; her identical twin sister, Lois Elizondo of Paris, Tennessee; four granddaughters, Kim Clary and her husband, Todd, of Henrico, Virginia, Sara Mace and her husband, Shawn, of Woodbury, Tennessee, Krista Canada and her husband, Karl, of Friendship, Tennessee, Caitlin Kemper and her husband, Adam, of Nashville, Tennessee; and six great-grandchildren, Kiersten Clary, Caroline Clary, Lain Canada, Marlowe Mace, Beatrix Mace and Ewan Mace.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Thomas John “Jack” Blackwell, Sr. who died March 26, 2005; and her parents, Roscoe Owen Sims and Leila Maud Mathis Sims.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Shawn Mace, Adam Kemper, Karl Canada, Gene Robertson and Charles Elizondo.
