Louise Riddick (McCraw) Cocke

Louise Riddick McCraw Cocke, age 93, resident of Braden, Tennessee and wife of the late William Hamblette “Jake” Cocke, Jr., departed this life Tuesday morning, December 14, 2021 at her home.

Louise was born November 29, 1928 in Braden, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Chester Menefee McCraw and Mary Shore McCraw. She graduated from Fayette County High School and attended Stratford College in Virginia. She was married October 9, 1954 to William Hamblette “Jake” Cocke, Jr. Louise was hired March 16, 1948 at The Bank of Mason (now The Bank of Fayette County) and worked there for 71 years before her retirement in 2019 at the age of 90. She served as director for The Bank of Mason and C.T. McCraw & Company. She was a member of Braden United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer for over 50 years. She was also involved in other church activities and functions. Mr. and Mrs. Cocke donated land for the Braden City Hall and Fire Department.

Mrs. Cocke is survived by two daughters: Eva Dale Williams and Mary Louise “Lisa” Tapp (Holt); two sons: William Hamblette Cocke III (Cindy) and Chester McCraw Cocke (Teresa); eight grandchildren: Daniel Hamblette Cocke (Annie), Catherine Cocke O’Donahue (Tom), Dr. Allen Riddick Williams (Lauren), Lauren Williams Wall (Logan), Davis William Cocke (Lauren), Anna Grace Lowrance (Gabe), Mary Cortland Cocke and Jake Bowers Cocke; granddaughter-in-law: Peria Gober Williams; and nine great-grandchildren: William McCadden Cocke, Caury Christmas Cocke, John Oliver Wall, Maddon Ross Wall, Kirby Thomas Wall, Bauer McCraw Williams, Merritt Gray Williams, Max Braden O’Donahue and Lucy Brooks Lowrance.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Anne McMillan and Sara Beth Swope; her grandson, Dr. John Barton Williams; and her son-in-law, John Tom Williams.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Cocke were held at 3 P.M. Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Braden United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Walker officiating. Music was provided by Carol Jan Liles, Rev. Dr. Mark Matheny and Christi Walker. Interment followed in the Harris Cemetery at Braden.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Daniel Cocke, Dr. Allen Williams, Davis Cocke, Jake Cocke, Tom O'Donohue, Gabe Lowrance and Logan Wall.
