Loura (Petrowski) Thomas

LOURA WINSTON “TUT” PETROWSKI THOMAS, longtime resident of the Kirk Community and wife of the late Raymond L. Thomas, Sr. departed this life Tuesday morning, August 16, 2011 at her home. She was 88 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Thomas were conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, August 19 ^th at Kirk Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Foy of the church, Rev. Jim Madden and Rev. Ira Singleton officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Thomas was born May 1, 1923 in Collierville, the daughter of the late Martin W. Petrowski and Anna Anthony Petrowski. She worked at Firestone in her earlier years, and later was a bus driver for Fayette County Public Schools and was a food server at Rossville Academy for ten years. Her family ran a dairy farm until it was sold in 1980. She was married to the late Raymond L. Thomas, Sr., who preceded her in death on May 7, 1982.

Mrs. Thomas enjoyed taking care of her flowers, gardening and caring for her yard and will be remembered for her devotion to her family, church and community. She enjoyed picking up community residents and bringing them to church.

She leaves as her survivors, her daughter, Barbara Thomas Putt of Kirk Community; three sons, Raymond L. “Nicky” Thomas, Jr. (Shearon) of New Bethel, Terry D. Thomas of Kirk Community and William C. Thomas of Ramer, TN; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Paul Anthony, Josh Tankersley, Ray Farley Thomas, John Thomas, Jerry Booker and Larry Putt.
