Lucille (Griggs) Guthrie

Lucille Griggs Guthrie, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Felix David “Peanut” Guthrie died Wednesday morning October 26, 2011 at the St. Francis Hospital on Park Avenue in Memphis where she had been a patient for five days. She was 90 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Guthrie were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, October 28th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. The officiating ministers were Dr. Bob Elliot of Jackson and Dr. Ken Story, pastor of the Somerville First Baptist Church. Special music was provided by Melvin German and Beverly Summers. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Guthrie was born November 28, 1920 in Camden, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Griggs and Lura Beasley Griggs. She received her education in the Benton County, TN Public School System and was married June 16, 1949 to Felix “Peanut” Guthrie, well known Somerville business owner, who preceded her in death on December 14, 2005. She had been a resident of Somerville for 64 years.
Mrs. Guthrie was active in the community, civic and church affairs of Fayette County for many years. In earlier life, she served as a depot agent with the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railroad Company and also served as Fayette County Election Commission Officer for a number of years before her retirement.
She was a longtime devoted member of the Somerville First Baptist Church and was associated with her family in the operation of the well known Somerville business, Guthrie and Rosser Furniture and Appliances. She received much pleasure in entertaining family and friends and was an avid golfer and enjoyed telling her friends about her “hole in one” experience. Mrs. Guthrie served as a Pink Lady for local healthcare facilities and will be remembered as a people person who was loved by all who knew her, enjoying the friendship of many. Fishing with her husband was a favorite pastime in earlier years.
Mrs. Guthrie is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Guthrie DeLotelle (Roy) of Gainesville, FL; her brother, Billy Griggs of Somerville; and two grandchildren, Stephen Guthrie DeLotelle of Suwanne, GA and William David DeLotelle of Gainesville, FL.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David DeLotelle, Stephen DeLotelle, Ricky Rosser, Ray Rosser, Ben Staton, Elliott Lambert, Dr. Carl Rhea, Dr. Ray Hawkins and Dr. Harold Shivers.
