Lucille (Earnest) Powers

September 28, 1928 — January 7, 2013

Lucille Earnest Powers, longtime resident of the District 15 Community in Fayette County, a native of Hardeman County and wife of the late Earl H. Powers, Jr. died Monday morning, January 7, 2013 at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis where she had been a patient since December 20, 2012. She was 84 years of age and died following a fall on her property.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Powers will be conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, January 11th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Ken Burnette of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church officiating. Special Music will be provided by Tim Spencer, Soloist, Charlene Hurdle, Pianist and Christi Cazalas, Flutist. Interment will follow in the Parks Chapel Cemetery. A visitation for Mrs. Powers will be from 10 to 11 Friday morning at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Powers was born May 14, 1928 in Hickory Valley, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Earnest and Esther Lee Lipford Earnest. She received her education in the Public School Systems of Hickory Valley and Grand Junction. She was married October 23, 1954 to Earl H. Powers, Jr., United States Careerperson Veteran and retired production manager for Audiotronics in Memphis. Mr. Powers preceded her in death on August 9, 2005.

Mr. and Mrs. Powers resided in various locations during Mr. Powers military career with the United States Air Force. After retirement, they returned to Fayette County, where Mrs. Powers had resided since 1967. She was a homemaker throughout much of her life and was a devoted member of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church.

Known for her independence and love for her community, Mrs. Powers served as a caregiver and mother for her family beginning at the age of 13. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who had a lifelong love for flower gardening. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Bible Study.

Mrs. Powers is survived by two brothers, Herman Earnest of Memphis, Allen Earnest and wife, Jean of Moscow; and her grandson, Logan Powers Rusché of Nazareth, PA.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Powers was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Powers Rusché, who died July 14, 2009 and her son, Michael Anthony Powers, who died August 27, 2010.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be John Earnest, Jeff Earnest, Barry Earnest, Ray Markle, Conrad Powers and Ronald Markle.
