Luther Morris Jackson

September 16, 1946 — March 6, 2008

LUTHER MORRIS JACKSON, resident of the Somerville Community and longtime area carpet installer, died at 5 P.M. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at his residence on Old Jackson Road. He was 61 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Funeral services for Mr. Jackson were conducted at 2 PM Sunday, March 9th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. The officiating ministers were Rev. Eddie Little, pastor of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church and Rev. John Ed Watkins, pastor of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Memphis, Mr. Jackson was born September 16, 1946, the son of the late Luther Morris Jackson, Sr. and the late Daisy White Jackson. He was educated in the public school system of Fayette County and was married September 4, 1966, to the former Margaret Pittman of Fayette County, who survives.
Mr. Jackson was employed as an independent carpet installation contractor in West Tennessee for many years before retiring four years ago for health reasons. He was a lifelong resident of the Fayette County area and was a member of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church.
His interests were outdoor activities that included hunting, fishing, traveling and camping. Mr. Jackson enjoyed singing gospel music at his church and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Barbara Ferge (Marvin) of Moscow, Tammy Gammell (Donnie) of Somerville and Beverly Doyle (Cory) of Somerville; his son, James Jackson (Carol) of Whiteville; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Skip Taylor, Jimmy Elrod, Wayne Hinsley, Sanford Churchill, Andy Stanton and Buck Sides.
Thomas Elrod and Donnie Elrod served as honorary casketbearers.
The family request that memorials be directed to the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church, 17675 Hwy. 196, Hickory Withe, TN 38028.
